It's that time of year again! We're making our Christmas lists, checking them twice, and getting ready to choose gifts for everyone we love. This year, I want to make it a very merry Christmas for Black women-owned businesses.
As a Black woman who's worked hard to build my own businesses, I know how challenging it can be to get noticed. There are so many talented women creating beautiful products, but they don't always have the marketing budgets or visibility they deserve.
YOUR NEXT FAVORITE GIFT COULD BE HER CREATION
Think handmade soaps, beautiful perfumes, seasonings, stationery, jewelry, candles, and things you didn't know you needed until you discovered them. This Christmas, my mission is to find these women, try their products, and share their businesses with you.
START WITH THE PERSON YOU'RE SHOPPING FOR
For the friend who loves a slow Sunday, explore bath and body products. For the host, consider something beautiful for the home. For the cook, seek out a new seasoning or pantry find. Check ingredients, shipping times, and the business's own product details before ordering.
Do you know a Black woman-owned business that makes something amazing? Keep her name handy and pass it on to a friend. You can recommend your own business, too.
Sometimes one person telling another about a great product can change the trajectory of someone's business. Let's discover some incredible products and give these women the spotlight they've earned.
If you find something you love, don't keep it to yourself. Tell your friends, tell your family, and spread the word!
